Today i tried to make mixed dal,usually dal we call it as bele kattu or kattu saru in kannada,as i know north indians will spell in this name,here dals are made in different varieties like plain dal or mixed dal.here i have prepared mixed dal like toordal,chanadal & moongdal.it is served with rice or chapathi,roti etc., even masala dal is prepared it is prepared as i said plain normally in our side as i said bele kattu saru where simply seasoining is done and masala dal means some masalas are added.
Ingredients:
Toordal
Moongdal
Chanadal all three one cup
Onion one medium size
Tomato one big one
Ginger 1” inch
Green chilli or red chilli 2
Turmeric 1/4 tsp
Salt as per taste
Pinch of sugar
Seasoining;
Ghee 1tbsp
1/2 tsp mustered seeds
1/2 tbsp jeera
Ginger
Asafoetida 1/4 tsp
Green or red chilli
Others;
1/2 tsp jeera powder
1/2 tsp coriander powder
1/2 to 1 tsp red chilli powder
Coriander leaves
Curry leaves
Method:
- Cook all dals with sufficiant water by adding little turmeric and ghee until done
- In a pan heat ghee and add all seasoining and fry,
- Then add chopped onion and sprinkle little salt and sauté until it turns translucent
- Now add chopped tomatoes and sauté until done
- Then add cooked dal by smashing it smoothly ( strain extra water and keep )
- Now add salt & other ingredients given and mix well and leave it to boil.
- If the consistancy is very thick add water which you have strained and kept before
- Garnish with coriander leaves
- Seve hot .
Notes; you can add little lemon juice if needed
2, you can also add garam masala if you like
