ONION SAMBAR


                                                         ಈರುಳ್ಳಿ ಸಾಂಬಾರು

Onion sambar or eerulli sambar is a gravy made with onion & tomato with freshly grounded masala,& this sambar is served with idli,dosa etc.,very tasty sambar.this sambar is similar to Hotel Tiffin Sambar.nearly ,same taste will come,from so many days i was trying different types if sambar but i was not satisfied but atlast i got this recipe it came out very well it is very easy & tasty sambar.

Ingredients:
1/4 cup moong dal
1 cup onions ( small shallots or medium size)
1 tomato
1 small lemon size tamarind juice
1 tsp & little more sambar powder ( huli pudi)
Pinch of turmeric powder

For seasoning;
1 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustered seeds
1 dry red chilli broken
Curry leaves
Pinch of asafoetida

For masala grinding;
1tbsp dhaniya seeds
1/2 tsp methi seeds
1/2 tsp chana dal
1 tbsp gram dal
1 green chilli
1 or 2 red chilli
1 tsp oil

Others
1/4 cup grated coconut
1 tomato
( adjust spices as per your taste)
Coriander leaves for garnishing

Method;
1. Firstly,roast all things given under for masala grinding by adding little oil & grind into fine paste & keep.and cook moongdal & keep ready.

2. Heat oil in a pan and do seasoning tyen add onions & fry until it changes it colour & then add chopped tomatoes & cook until tomatoes become soft & add sambar powder & tamarind water & live to boil for few minutes then add salt,jaggary & cooked moongdal & mix,then add curry leaves & grinded mixture & mix well & live it to boil,at this stage gravy becomes little thick so add little water & make it to right consistency .boil for some more minutes until raw smell goes & fine aroma comes out.

3. Remove & garnish with coriander leaves & serve.
