HEEREKAI HALU KOOTU


                                                              ಹೀರೆಕಾಯಿ ಹಾಲು ಕೂಟು

Cooking time; 10-15 minutes
Heerekai means ridgegourd,heerekai halu kootu means a gravy cooked in milk.usually heerekai is used to make many types of dishes like curry,dosa,kootu,gojju,bonda etc., it is very healthy & tasty too.this kootu is prepared by adding milk this is very easy & very tasty dish which can be served with white rice or as side to chapathi dosa,idli etc.,this recipe i got from one blog.i have done some variations,it came out very well.

Ingredients ;

1 cup heerekai ( ridge gourd)
1 cup milk ( adjust as per consistency)
Salt as per taste
Jaggery little

For grinding;
1/4 cup grated coconut
1/2 tsp raw rice
1 tbsp urad dal
4-5 black pepper
3-4 dry red chillies
1/2 tsp oil for roasting

For tadka:
1 tsp ghee
1/2 tsp mustered seeds
Few curry leaves
Pinch of hing
1 dry red chilli broken

Method;

1. Cook heerekai or ridgegourd & keep ready.

2. In a pan roast all things given grinding until nice aroma comes out & urad dal & rice changes its colour & grind by adding little water to a smooth paste.

3. Bring cooked heerekai or ridge gourd & grinded mixture to boil add little water if needed.

4. Add salt,& jaggery & mix well & let it to boil for few minutes or until raw smell goes.

5. Add milk & mix & live to boil for few more minutes on sim flame & remove.

6. Make tadka & pour to the heerekai kootu & mix.

7. Serve hot with rice or side to any other dish.
