This we can call it as snack also or like any other break fast or lunch or dinner dishes you can call it because it is served as evening snack like with coffee or tea & also as breakfast or for lunch or dinner
also,actually this Nuchin unde is made by steaming lentil dumplings,this is from karnataka region .when we were young my mother used to prepare it frequently with side dish as sambar or chutney or Majjige huli.this dish is prepared frequently in my native place also.this is very yummy in taste &
healthy too because we are using lentils here & steaming it,long ago after my marriage i prepared this dish once & i completely forgot about this,but when we visited one if my good family friend in Singapore this time she prepared this.so i was thinking after coming back i should again give a try so today i called my mother & asked the recipe & prepared for lunch & for this side dish was Majjige Huli.really,what to say it came out very tasty,even my hubby liked it & planning to carry to japan next week.oh.,feeling happy.
Ingredients. Another method
1 cup channa dal. 1 cup of toor dal
3/4 cup toor dal. 1/2 cup of channadal
( soaked in water for 1 hr).
Green chillies 5-6 or as per spicy. Other Ingrediants same.
Coriander leaves 1/4 bunch. Method same.
Curry leaves few
Turmeric powder pinch
Salt as per taste
Sugar little ( optional)
Coconut cut into small peaces
Pinch of hing
Sabbasige soppu or dill leaves ( optional) 1/2 bunch
Method
Firstly,grind coarsely soaked channa & toor dal with green chillies without adding water ( their should not be any water when you are grinding,the soaked water should be completely drained)
Then take the grinded mixture in a bowl & add chopped curry leaves,chopped coriander leaves,salt & coconut & turmeric powder & mix well without adding any water.
Now grease an idli plate & make small dumplings of the lentil mixture & arrange in idli plate ,& steam it for 15 minutes.
Then remove & serve hot with chutney or sambar any thing.
