HEEREKAI KOOTU




         
                                                                  ಹೀರೆಕಾಯಿ ಕೂಟು
HEerekai kootu,is a gravy where ridge gourd is used to prepare,this is also one type of sambar but ingredients used are different,this is very tasty & goes well with plain rice or dosa,chapatis,idli etc.,


Ingredients:
1/2 cup toordal 
1 cup chopped ridge gourd

For grinding:
1 tbsp chana dal
1/2 tbsp urad dal
1/2 tbsp coriander seeds
4-5 dry red chillies 
1/2" cinnamon 
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
4-5 black pepper 
1/4 tsp khus khus ( gasagase)
1/3 cup grated coconut 

Seasoning;
1 tbsp oil 
1 tsp mustered seeds
1 dry red chilli broken 
Few curry leaves 

Others;
Salt as needed
1 tbsp jaggery 
Small lemon size tamarind soaked in water 


Method;

1.chop ridge gourd & cook with toor dal ( in cooker for 3 whistles).

2. Dry roast things given under grinding to fine paste by adding little water.

3. In a vessel take cooked dal & ridge gourd & bring to boil then add grinded mixture & mix & boil for few minutes or raw smell disappears.

4. Add salt,jaggery & tamarind water & mix & leave to boil another 2-3 minutes & remove.

5. Heat a seasoning spatula with oil & add mustered seeds when it done add dry red chilli & curry leaves & fry,then add this to kootu & mix.

6. Serve hot with plain rice or....
