AVALAKKI PONGAL


                                                             ಅವಲಕ್ಕಿ ಪೊಂಗಲ್
Avalakki means poha,usually,rice pongal is made,both sweet & spicy by using rice & yellow moong dal or hesarubele. It is very healthy & tasty dish.very easy to prepare.moong dal is very healthy.let us see some healthy benefits of moong dal...Moong dal is high In  dietary fibre.  It has minimum calorie rich in source of iron and potassium.this moong dal is used in many dishes in indian cuisine.& my mom says that is cool to body,we prepare dal,pongal,kheer etc., from moong dal. 


Ingredients;
1 cup poha or avalakki ( medium)
1/4 cup moong dal

For seasoning:
1 tsp ghee
1 tsp mustered seeds
1/2 tsp jeera or cumin seeds
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
Few curry leaves
2 red chillies broken
2-3 green chilli slitted
1/4 tsp grated ginger
1/2 tsp whole pepper

Others;
Salt as needed
Sugar for taste
1 tsp or as per your taste pepper powder
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tbsp grated coconut
Coriander leaves for garnishing

Method;
1. Fry moong dal by adding little ghee( optional) & pressure cook until done,1 or 2 whistles ,moong dal should not be mushy.

2. Clean poha with sufficient water & keep aside until it is soft ( if needed add  water to soak,poha should not be too soft or mushy)

3. In a pan heat ghee & add all things given under seasoning & fry.then add cooked moong dal & mix then add salt & sugar & pepper powder & boil for only few seconds & (add little water & boil) then
add soaked poha & mix & remove from stove ( it should be cooked on slow flame)

4. Add lemon juice,grated coconut & garnish with coriander leaves

5. Serve hot.

Notes; if you like mushy you can cook moongdal more & soak poha with sufficient water.but i dont like more mushy in poha pongal.
