RASAM


                                                                     ಬೇಳೆ  ಸಾರು
Prep., time 5-8 minutes
Cooking time; 6-8 minutes
Basic rasam or simple rasam or tomato rasam or toordal rasam with any name you can call this rasam or saaru in kannada. This rasam is simple & basic,where after this so many types of rasams we prepare some with dal or some without dal,like pepper rasam,lemon rasam,ginger rasam etc.,this rasam is also like appetiser,where you can have it like soup,usually in restaurants they serve as  tomato shorba,this rasam is from south ,normally in each & every home they prepare this & again in each and every functions like marriages serve first rasam & white rice.this rasam us prepared by using toor dal & rasam powder where both home made & store bought is used.here in this recipe i have used home made rasam powder.very easy to make.

Ingredients ;

1/4 cup toordal
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp ghee

1& 1/2 tsp or little more rasam powder( you can add as per your taste)
Salt as per taste
1 tbsp powdered jaggery
1 small lemon size tamarind  soaked in water

For tadka;

1 tbsp ghee
1tsp cumin seeds
Curry leaves few
Asafoetida pinch

Coriander leaves for garnishing
1 medium small chopped tomato

Method;

1. Cook toordal adding sufficient water by adding turmeric & ghee in cooker until soft.

2. Smash toor dal after it has cooked & bring to boil & add rasam powder & boil for few minutes & then add chopped tomatoes,curry leaves & coriander leaves & live it to boil until raw smell goes & fine aroma comes out.

3. Now add salt & jaggery & mix then add tamarind juice or pulp & mix well & live it to boil for another 2-3 minutes.

4. Remove from stove.

5. Heat ghee in a pan & make tadka & add to rasam & mix.

6. Serve hot with rice.
