GUJARATHI DAL


                                                                  ಗುಜರಾತಿ ದಾಲ್
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 10-15 minutes
This is one of the gujarathi side dish & main coarse,which is sweet & tangy in taste,served with plain rice,roti,etc..very easy to prepare & it is tasty too.

Ingredients:

  • Tur dal - 1/2 cup 
  • Peanuts - 1/3 cup raw
  • Tomato - 1, medium, finely chopped
  • Jaggery - 1 tbsp to 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Green chilis - 2, slit
  • Ginger - 1", finely minced
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Lemon juice - 1 to 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves to garnish
  • For tadka:
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • Mustard seeds - 1tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp (methi/menthulu)
  • Asafoetida pinch
  • Dry red chilis - 1 or 2 broken
  • Cinnnamon stick - 1"
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Curry leaves - 1 string
  • Kasoori methi 1/2 tsp smashed
  • 1/2 tsp dhaniya powder ( optional)


Method:

1. Soak dal for 10 minutes & cook until it become soft.

2. Remove cooked dal & add raw peanuts,ginger,turmeric powder,red chilli powder,green chillies,chopped tomatoes,salt & jaggery & bring to boil & mix.boil until raw smell disappears & keep stirring in between

3. In another pan heat ghee & put all things given under tadka.& fry.

4. Remove boiled dal & pour tadka on dal & mix

5. Garnish with coriander leaves & kasoori methi

6. Serve hot.

Note; add sufficient water to make it right consistency.
