HIREKAI TOVEE


                                                              ಹೀರೆಕಾಯಿ ತೊವೆ

Cooking time 10 minutes


This is one version of north Indian Dal touch of south Indian that's all but very healthy & tasty &
very easy to prepare,it goes well with roti,dosa & also plain rice.

Ingredients

  • Moong dal ( hesaru bele) little less than 3/4 cup
  • 1 cup Ridge guard chopped into small peaces 
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1" ginger grated
  • 3-4 green chillies
  • salt
  • 1" jaggery
  • 1/4  to 1/2 cup freshly grated coconut
  • lemon juice 1 tsp
  • coriander leaves for garnishing

  • seasoning:
  • 1-2 tsp ghee
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 mustard seeds
  • curry leaves
  • pinch of asafoetida
  • 1 red chili broken into peaces


Method

1. Cook moong dal in cooker for three whistles 

2. Cut heerekai & cook & keep ready on stove top separately otherwise you can cook in cooker also.

3. Grind grated coconut with green chilli,turmeric, ginger &coriander  leaves little into paste

4. In a pan heat ghee & add musterd seeds when it crackles add cumin seeds & curry leaves & red chilli.fry then add cooked dal and ridgegourd & add little water & boil make it into correct consistency .add grinded mixture & add salt and jaggery & live to boil for few more minutes.

5. Remove & add lemon juice & garnish with coriander leaves.

6. Serve hot.
